LWVGB Member Consensus Meeting
at the Forest Community Room

Vestavia Hills, AL 35216
-- Map --

Members, please review the Money in Politics (MIP) Study Introduction and Overview and the unbiased background information and consensus questions on Money in Politics (MIP) before attending so that you can lend your voice to the discussion. Your expressed views will be the basis of the consensus report to the LWVUS and will consequently influence the League's updated national position on campaign finance.

From LWVGB Study Director, Connie Arnwine, "The league has taken an active role in campaign finance since the 70's. The Supreme Court decision-Citizens United v Federal Election Committee completely changed our election process and this consensus process is directed at educating membership and for updating the league's position on campaign finance." Members, attend this meeting to lend your voice as we update the League's position on campaign finance.

We will discuss:
    •    Goals and purposes of campaign finance regulation
    •    What activities should or should not be considered to be political corruption
    •    1st Amendment protections for speakers and activities in political campaigns (with regard to individuals, organizations, and the press)
    •    Methods for regulating campaign finance to protect the democratic process
