Birmingham Mayoral Candidate Forum

On Tuesday, January 12, 2009, the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham, along with the Birmingham  Association of Black Journalists and the Birmingham Roundtable (a young professional group), co-sponsored a Birmingham mayoral candidate forum. The event, free to the public, was held at the Medical Forum of the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center.  Birmingham voters will decide between Jefferson County Commissioner William Bell and lawyer Patrick Cooper in the in the runoff election on Tuesday, January 19, 2009. .

Many Birmingham residence took the opportunity to hear the candidates. The site auditorium was filled, and the event was also broad­cast live on 610 WAGG Heaven AM, and on 98.7 KISS FM.. Brighthouse Networks taped the event so that it could be accessed on Digital Channel 1040 Local on Demand.

KISS FM news anchor Julius White was the moderator. Panelists were Yvonne Brakefield of the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham, Eddie Koen of the Birmingham Roundtable, and Vickii Howell of the Birmingham Association of Black Journalists. They questioned the candidates about crime, economic development, education, fiscal responsibility, and youth.
