Events and Impact on Leagues in Alabama
June 11-13, 2005 in Washington, D. C.
- Civil Liberties - Panel Discussion and Workshop
Civil Liberties, a core element of the 2005 Democracy Agenda, has been a Tier I League priority since the 2004 LWVUS Convention. LWVUS continues to focus on civil liberties through advocacy, action alerts, press releases, visibility efforts, educational materials, facilitator training and information on the "Local Voices" project. Read the report.
- A 360 Degree View of League
This workshop was designed to help local and state leagues develop a consistent approach to successful advocacy through education fund development, membership recruitment and engagement, and adequate community visibility. Read the report.
- Development Challenges Facing Leagues
The purpose of this workshop was to illustrate how to construct a Case Statement to be used in conjunction with fund development activities. A Case Statement should contain specific sections with pertinent and up-to-date information about the league's services, unique qualities, achievements, and plans for addressing a particular need or issue. - Active LWVEF Seeks to Educate and Engage
Local and state Leagues will find several national programs to assist their education efforts. Programs focus on voter outreach, election reform activities, civic engagement, and global democracy outreach. Leagues are encouraged to educate voters on the changes that HAVA brings to the election process, and to seek ways to engage non-voting citizens in the election process. Read the report.
