On behalf of the Alabama Press Association, Executive Director Felicia Mason (r) receives the LWVAL's first ever Jane Katz Public Service Award from LWVAL Co-President Becky Sylvester (l). The Board established this award in 2005 to recognize an individual or organization whose work strengthens democracy. The award is named for Jane Katz whose advocacy work as the State League Legislative Chair is legend in the League and the Legislature. The APA received the award in recognition of its years of effort to get a new "Alabama Open Meetings Law" passed. The bill was enacted in 2005.
