On Tuesday evening, September 18, 2007, each of ten candidates told citizens why he or she should be elected to be mayor of Birmingham, AL. An audience of approximately 250 people was present to watch the mayoral forum at WorkPlay located at  500 23rd Street South in downtown Birmingham.

The candidates were allowed one and one half minutes to make an opening statement to say why they are running for mayor and why they should be elected. In each of the four rounds that followed, a question was posed to the candidates by forum moderator David Lamb of WIAT CBS Channel 42. The candidates were given one minute to answer.

The event was streamed live on WIAT/CBS 42's website and later broadcast for the television audience. The forum can be viewed in its entirety on WIAT CBS Channel 42's website. The forum will also air on WBHM 90.3 FM, Birmingham's public padio station, at 7:00 p.m., September 19, 2007.

The forum was sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham, Catalyst, Rotaract Club of Birmingham, Birmingham Association of Black Journalists, Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, WorkPlay and WIAT/CBS 42. The television broadcast was underwritten by Bradley Arant Rose and White LLP.

The League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham thanks the candidates for taking part in the Mayoral Forum and thus helping Birmingham citizens cast a more informed vote in the mayoral election. We encourage the citizens of Birmingham to let their voice be heard at the polls on October 9. Voter registration deadline for the mayoral election is September 28.
